Slender Barbie – every girl’s dream?

In 2013, the Barbie doll turned 54 years old. A solid age for a toy – interest in it for more than half a century has not dried up. Barbie’s godmother is an American, Ruth Handler. She recalls that the creation of this toy was inspired by her own daughter Barbara, who loved to play with dolls in adult life.

Ruth called the goddaughter the name of her daughter – Barbie. A bit of history For a long time, the appearance of the doll has undergone significant changes. The very first dolls looked like typical American housewives. Barbie was produced in different versions. The doll had the face of an adult woman, it was framed by frivolous curls, hair color varied from blondes of all stripes to brown-haired women. There were earrings in the ears. Barbie was wearing a striped swimsuit. She had movable arms, legs, and a torso at the waist. It was also established production of clothing and accessories for women of fashion. Barbie’s height – 29 cm.

If we compare the proportions of her body with the real size of a girl, then they would look like this: height 170 cm, weight – less than 50 kg, breast volume – 99 cm, waist – 45, hips – 84. A sort of busty Madame with aspen waist! Over the years, Barbie began to look younger and prettier. The doll’s eyes became larger, the eyelashes were longer, and a snow-white smile began to play on their lips. Over time, the body of the doll has acquired more natural proportions. Year after year, “Barbie Industry” gained momentum: in addition to outfits and accessories, the industry began to produce houses, palaces, exquisite furniture, carriages, cars. Barbie has a boyfriend Ken and numerous girlfriends.

Now in many countries of the world, their national Barbies are produced with different colors of skin, eyes and hair, they are dressed in folk costumes. What unites them? All multinational dolls have the same face and shape – like a traditional Barbie. The most popular (especially among collectors) are Barbie dolls that were “shaped” by one or another superstar: Vivien Leigh, Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, Diana Ross, Barbara Streisand, Niki Minaj and many others.

My Barbie – Varyushka I, of course, like most little girls, dreamed of having a Barbie doll. I understood that my mother would never be able to buy such an expensive toy, but no one forbade dreaming. And one day a miracle happened. My mother’s friend gave me a real Barbie for my birthday. When I received a box with a gift, I simply lost the power of speech, and for some reason, tears came to my eyes. I buried my nose in Aunt Lena’s hands, hugged the precious box and ran to the kitchen. There, for a long time I looked at my treasure from all sides, until I finally decided to open and pick up a charming fabulous beauty. My Barbie was blonde with hair to the waist, with blue eyes wide open and pink lipstick on her lips. In the ears the doll had long earrings, a necklace around its neck.

Barbie was wearing a purple mini dress with spaghetti straps, with stars and chains scattered across the canvas. On her feet were dark blue shoes with high heels. In the box I found a silver handbag and several hair clips to make Barbie different hairstyles. My happiness knew no bounds. When I enjoyed the look of my new girlfriend, I went into the room and showed all the guests what I now possess. Mom explained to me that Barbie is short for Barbara, or the Russian name for Barbara. I instantly decided to rename my doll Varyushka.

Varya became my closest girlfriend, I trusted her intimate secrets to her, and she never “betrayed them” to anyone. Over time, I asked my mother to help me expand the wardrobe of my friend Varyushka. The reason was the endless conversations of my classmates – owners of a variety of Barbies. One girl had 3 Barbie dolls, and she constantly said that they had clothes for all occasions, they had their own house with furniture and a pink car. I then thought to myself that the house and the car of my Vare did not shine, but with the wardrobe I could help her.

Mom found the shreds of various fabrics, showed how to cut and sew clothes for a doll, provided me with colored threads, scissors, needles and a thimble. I spent all my free time sewing and fitting. A few months later, my favorite doll had a “luxurious”, from my point of view, wardrobe … Barbie as the standard of girlish beauty. For more than half a century of history, the Barbie doll turned from a toy into a symbol in which the extraordinary beauty and love of life was concentrated.

Some young girls in different countries are so passionate about Barbie that they want to be like her in everything. They copy the makeup of their favorite doll, stick long eyelashes, insert lenses in their eyes, copy puppet poses, turning into willow into a slim Barbie. Sometimes, in order to achieve complete coincidence with their idol, girls have to make great sacrifices. Here are some examples of how live Barbie becomes. Perhaps the greatest success in the process of transforming Barbie into life was achieved by an American, Cindy Jackson.
